Historical information
The organ was built in 1982 by the organ builder Mense Ruiter of
Zuidwolde, Netherlands.
This sample set is made from a recording made in the Petruskerk in
Leens, Groningen, on October 10, 2007.
The recordings were made by Fred de Jong and Rietje Raatgeep.
Initially we refrained from the publication of this organ because of
the very disturbing and difficult to remove motor noise.
Upon reflection and with much effort we were able to obtain an
acceptable result which we do not wish to withold from you.
Most of the work involving the samples was done by Johan van der Waal
van Dijk.
The Organ Definition File and thus also the layout was created by Fred
de Jong in the summer of 2013.
Technical information
Tuning: a' = around 436 Hz.
Temperament: Equal temperament.
For Hauptwerk, the sample set was retuned to equal temperment at a' =
440 Hz.
Windpressure 65 mm (2.56 inch) column.
There is no tremulant.
Recording Technique
The organ was recorded in stereo (24 bit, 96 kHz) at a distance of
about 2 meters from the front.
Alternative Tunings
If you should use an unequal tuning, then you will notice that when
the keyboard is shifted (one semitone higher) the tuning is no longer
correct. For this reason we have created extra temperaments which are
included with this organ.

Manual:
The keyboard can be shifted a semitone to the right and because an extra
pipe is installed on the chest, one can play a semitone higher without
running out of pipes.
The organ builder did this to make it possible to play along with the
Hinz main organ.
Coupler:
The actual organ has a pull-down pedal. To make the organ more useful,
we have provided it with a copy of the Bourdon 16 foot from the main
organ in this church. This made it necessary to equip the instrument
with a pedal to manual coupler.
Of course the pedal also shifts when the keyboard is shifted.

The computer
To play the full version of this sample set without restrictions
requires a modern, fast computer with, for example, Windows 10 64 bit
installed and around 4 GB of RAM.
Obviously Hauptwerk must also be installed with the latest version 5
(or higher) Advanced.
It is said that the best results are achieved using Apple-MacIntosh
computers; however, we have no experience with this. It is difficult
to make exact statements about what is needed. The "mother" website

provides much information about this issue.

MIDI capability using hardware from, for example,

or MGB . We ourselves have
done this using a Heyligers organ dating from around 1975 (using WIRA
hardware). The conversion was about 300 Euro and everything has worked
perfectly for years.
Speakers/headphone
The superb sound quality of Hauptwerk is best experienced through
high-quality headphones, such as AKG or Sennheiser.
We prefer connecting the sound card to a (possibly multi-channel)
sound system. The above mentioned companies can also advise you on any
purchases in this area.
What you definitely should not do is listen to Hauptwerk
through the built-in speakers of the monitor or a set of €10 computer
speakers!
